ANALYSIS AND MATCH PREVIEW

Southampton played out another bore draw on Sunday as Fraser Fortster’s penalty saving technique salvaged them a point away to Liverpool, following on from a much less impressive goalless draw at home to Hull.
This makes it four games without a win for The Saints and leaves them in an anonymous mid-table position as we come into the closing stages of the Premier League. They are now 10th, a point adrift of the top half of the table but only ahead of Bournemouth and West Ham on goal difference.
Southampton’s overall performance this season has been far below par after the departure of Ronald Koeman last summer. They failed to get out of their Europa League group and have never really picked up any momentum in the Premier League. Their most recent draw leaves them with just four wins from their last 14 games in all competitions, seven of which have ended in defeat.
There is little solace to be taken in their home form either, with them winning one, drawing two, and losing three of their last six games. This includes a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal in the FA Cup too.
Arsenal bolstered their chances of a top four finish in the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Manchester United to make it four wins and one defeat in their last five outings in all competitions.
Their away form in the Premier League is dismal at the moment, but Southampton are struggling to find any motivation and I imagine Arsenal will be spurred on after their crucial victory on Sunday.
So, there’s a good value in backing the away team to come out victorious here.
