Leading
ICT Company, MTN Nigeria has assured of its unwavering support to the country’s
education sector through well-meaning initiatives.
According
to MTN Nigeria’s Chief Operating Officer, Mohammad Zia Siddiqui, who led senior
management of the company on a courtesy visit to the University of Port
Harcourt recently, education remains the bedrock for sustainable growth and
development for any nation.
Siddiqui
who was received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ndowa N.S. Lale and
other top management staff of the University explained that the visit
would afford the company the opportunity to interact with stakeholders
of the university and seek out opportunities where MTN can provide
support to the students and the University at large.
"As a responsible corporate entity we are always actively seeking out ways to contribute our quota to the task of nation building and we have identified education as a key area for us to do that.
The University of Port Harcourt has
become a breeding ground for future leaders of this country and that is
why we are excited to be here,” Siddiqui stated.
Siddiqui
also noted that apart from the MTN Foundation’s Science and Technology
Scholarship Scheme that has students from UNIPORT as beneficiaries, MTN
will continue to make the lives of the students better and brighter
through its innovative products and services.
In his remarks, Prof. Lale, while receiving the delegation from MTN, expressed gratitude to the ICT company for the visit.
Lale
called on other corporate bodies to emulate MTN in supporting
educational institutions. He praised the company for helping indigent
students actualize their academic aspirations through scholarships via
MTN Foundation’s platform and other activities.
Also
present with MTN’s Nigeria’s Chief Operating Officer were other senior
executives from the company including the Customer Relations Executive,
Ugonwa Nwoye; General Manager, Customer Experience, Andrew Esemezie and
others.
After the
visit to the VC, the MTN team had a robust youth focus forum with the
students. The engagement ended with an exciting performance from the
University’s alumna and Project Fame 9 winner, Okeimute, after which
several gifts were presented to students.
